1991-Present – Co-Founder of 75 Avenue Playground Volunteer Group, Inc. As a member of this organization I help to bring programs & events to the playground and ensure that the maintenance of this playground carried out regularly by NYC Parks & Rec. Because of my commitment, I was given a Parks & Rec. nickname, at the age of 12 by Parks Commissioner Henry J. Stern.

We Are Family
York Community Center Family Relationship Workshops
Youth Ages 10-13 and Parents

INTRODUCTION:

Learn how to spice up your future home videos as we present a digital video class as part of the "We Are Family" month activities. Bring the family closer together through video create a project that can be rewound over and over for you to enjoy.

TASK:

Bring families together and increase parent participation within the community center. By creating a how to family digital video tutorial that will be shown at the end of the week.

PROCESS:

Day 1: Introduction to digital video
Day 2: Introduction on How to create digital video
Day 3: Began creating video
Day 4: Editing video
Day 5: Presentation (5-7min.)

RUBRIC:

Families will be “graded” on the following criteria:

1. Attendance

We ask that families come to each session everyday on time

2. Teamwork

We would like to see family working well and listening to each other
We would like to see families interacting with other families

3. Presentation

Your video must teach other families how to do something
You must have audience appropriate content
You must complete a finial production

CONCLUSION:

All families that successfully complete these workshops will be rewarded with certificates and tickets to the Universe Soul Circus.

The Magical H2O
3rd Grade Science

INTRODUCTION:

What happens to rain water a few days after it rains? The water disappears, but where does it go? Water has the ability to vanish in thin air through the process of evaporation. We will learn the secret tricks water uses to evaporate and who know, maybe you’ll learn how to do magic too.

TASK:

This is a group assignment
Your group will learn about the process of evaporation
Your group will record the speed of evaporation under different conditions by using digital cameras to take daily pictures.
Your group will create a report with you findings and compare them with the other groups’.

Jobs:

One student will be in charge of taking pictures
One student will be in charge of recording information on your group chart
One student will be in charge of loading the pictures into the compute

PROCEEDURE:

Step 1: Together in class we will complete the packet “Rain Dance”

Step 2: You will begin your group project.
a. Each group will fill a clear jug with ½ gallon of water.
b. You will begin a chart that monitors your findings
c. You will make visual records by taking pictures of your water jugs.

Step 3: After the experiment you will create a display board containing your chart and pictures.

Step 4: You will be tested on the information that you have learned.

Rubric:

Students will be graded out of 50 points which will be made up of the following:

20 Points For the Experiment
10 Points For the Presentation Board
10 Points for the Acutual Presentaion

Conclusion:

At the successful end of our presentations, we will have a class party. Each student will be asked to bring a donation to the party and we will watch the "Magical School Bus" Episode on the water cycle.
